5 Reasons Why You Need to Visit Chester Zoo

This week I was invited down to Chester Zoo for  a day of fun, food, and animals. I've visited the zoo quite a lot, but I can honestly say you'll never have the same experience here twice. It is one of the UK's largest zoos at 125 acres and over 20,000 animals!

500 Different Species of Animals
It goes without saying that the main reason you visit a zoo, is for the animals. Well, Chester Zoo has over 500 different species of animals, meaning there is something for everyone. Tigers, Elephants, Giraffes, Orangutans, you name it and Chester probably have it. Some must see's for me were the Jaguars, Sloths and Komodo Dragon.

Animal Encounters & Tours
If you enjoy learning a bit more about the animals, and getting up close and personal with them, Chester offer a range of guided tours and encounters for you to enjoy. We went on the Fabulous Favourites Tour in which Chloe, our tour guide, took us around 5 of the most adopted animals at the zoo, to learn more about why they are so popular. Or if you really want to get stuck in, you can book an experience day in which you could get up close and feed various animals, including the penguins, giraffes and even elephants!

Explore the Islands
One of the newer additions to the zoo is the Islands which is a great way to explore six South East Asian Islands, and their inhabitants. Each habitat is beautifully decorated to replicate each location, making your expedition as authentic as possible. Here you'll find the Tigers, as well as some weird and wonderful creatures such as the Southern Cassowary. If you're legs are aching a bit, you can also relax on the Lazy River Boat Trip which will take you around the island of Sumba.

PLAY! At the Zoo
If you're planning on visiting with children, they'll love the brand new Madagascar PLAY! area. There is also various activities and events running throughout the zoo for both you and the kids to enjoy. You can check out Chester Zoo's website for a list of event dates.

Treat Yourself to Some Yummy Food
And finally, what better way to unwind than with a tasty meal and drink. There's plenty to choose from so everyone's happy.  You can stop for a Coffee or Sandwich if you're feeling a little peckish, or enjoy some authentic food in the Islands at Manado Street Kitchen. We opted for good old Burger and Chips at June's Food Court!
