Spending a Day In Durham

Durham is somewhere I've never really explored before, which is weird considering it's no more than half an hours drive from me. Durham is quite a historic city with lots of beautiful buildings and a story behind each one. So, what does Durham have to offer?

Market Square & Shopping
Personally I'd start your journey in market square. From here you have access to various little streets and markets. In durham you can expect a lot of independent stores and boutiques, but you can also find more main stream stores, especially at Prince Bishops Shopping Centre. The narrow and winding streets are also packed with local cafes and restaurants, so you're truly spoilt for choice!

Durham Cathedral & Castle
No trip to Durham is complete without a visit to the cathedral. The cathedral is free to enter, but donations are welcome. You can also have a wander around the cathedral grounds which has it's own little cafe if you want to stop for a coffee! Afterwards you can wander through to the castle, which is actually now part of Durham University. This does mean you have to book a tour if you're planning to visit.

Take a Walk Around the River Wear or Hire a Boat
The view from Framwellgate bridge is a must see in Durham. Not only do you get a stunning view of the river and scenery, but you can also see the Cathedral and Castle to the left. But, if the view isn't enough, you can take a relaxing stroll around the river banks, or you can even hire a rowing boat and take a trip down it!

Have you ever visited Durham, if so what's your favourite thing to do?
