St Tropez Extra Dark Tanning Mousse - Is It Worth it?

If you know me in real life, you know I'm a bit of a tanning addict. Fake of course, no sunbeds for me! I've tried a lot of tans over the years, some being absolutely terrible, and some being great! One brand that I had never actually tried any tanning products from was St Tropez. They recently just released their newest product - The Extra Dark Tanning Mousse, which I was very intrigued by!

One of the biggest problems I have with tanning products, is a find they just aren't dark enough for me. Obviously if you just want a subtle bronzey glow, that's fine, but for me I crave that deep dark tan. For the darkest result, it's recommend you leave the St Tropez Extra Dark Mousse on for at least 8 hours before showering. Or, for a lighter tan, a minimum of 4 hours.

I always apply my fake tan in the evening and sleep in it, allowing the product to develop overnight before showering the top layer of in the morning. I have to say the tan applied so smoothly and blended into the more tricky areas very well! Straight away, I loved the colour of it. It was that deep dark tan I had been looking for!

It didn't take too long to dry, although I do think the warm weather we've been having probably contributed to this. I'd image in cooler months, it would be a lot quicker. It amazingly, didn't really transfer onto my sheet either which is a shocker!

After allowing the tan to develop overnight it was time to wash off that top layer in the shower. I have to say this is where I was a little worried. When I took a glance in the mirror when I woke up, my tan looked incredible. It was very dark, which is what I wanted, but still looked blended and natural. As soon as I started washing it off, I noticed how much product went down the drain and I started to panic that it wouldn't be as dark as when I first woke up.

In all honestly, I was a little disappointed to see how much product washed off because it was a lot. And after stepping out of the shower and drying off, it wasn't as dark as it was previously. However, it was still a lot darker than any of my current fake tans, so I can look past that.

My only 'real' issue with this tan, is it can be a pain on the hands and feet. When I got out of the shower, I did notice my hands had a few odd patches of tan which had turned slightly green, despite showering and applying with care. Also, for some reason, it doesn't seem to last as well, particularly on the feet, and a few patches and cracks were noticeable after two days.

Other than that, the rest of my body was even in colour and lasted up well for at least 5 days without any noticeable cracks or patchiness. At £34, it's definitely not a budget tan. But in the long run it could potentially save you money. For example, I usually go through two bottles of Bondi Sands a month, as I apply two layers to get the darkest tan. With this, one layer and you've achieved that look!

Superdrug currently have the St Tropez Extra Dark Mousse on offer for £16.95 here.

Have you tried any St Tropez products? What were your thoughts?
