Before You Go: Quick Paris Travel Tips
Before we dive into the day-by-day breakdown, a few things worth knowing:
- Getting around: The Paris Métro is your best friend. It's cheap, fast, and covers almost everywhere you'll want to go. Get a Navigo Day Pass for unlimited travel.
- Best time to visit Paris: Spring (April–June) and autumn (September–October) are widely considered the best seasons to visit Paris - the weather is pleasant with fewer crowds.
- Book in advance: The Eiffel Tower, Louvre Museum, and Palace of Versailles all require timed entry tickets. To avoid disappointment make sure to book in advance!
- DAY 1: Eiffel Tower, Trocadéro & Classic Paris
- DAY 2: Louvre Museum, Palais Royal & Montmarte
- DAY 3: Le Marais, Notre-Dame & Saint-Germain
- DAY 4: Arc de Triomphe, Champs-Élysées & Final Paris Moments
Day 1: Eiffel Tower, Trocadéro & Classic Paris
➜ Start Your First Morning at Trocadéro
If you’ve seen Paris on Pinterest or TikTok recently, chances are you’ve already seen Trocadéro.
And honestly? The views really are that good.
Trocadéro is one of the best places to see the Eiffel Tower and absolutely worth adding to your Paris bucket list itinerary.
I’d really recommend waking up early for this. Paris feels completely different in the morning before the crowds arrive. The streets are quieter, the light is softer and it somehow feels even more magical.
This was probably one of my favourite moments from my trip because it’s one of the few times Paris feels calm.
Best Paris Photo Spots Nearby
- Avenue de Camoëns
- Rue de l’Université
- Bir-Hakeim Bridge
- The Trocadéro steps
These are some of the most photographed spots in Paris for good reason.
➜ Visit the Eiffel Tower
No first time in Paris itinerary would be complete without seeing the Eiffel Tower properly.
Even if you don’t go to the top, seeing it up close is still worth it. It’s one of those landmarks that genuinely feels surreal in real life.
If you do want to visit the summit:
- Book tickets online in advance
- Choose morning or sunset slots
- Expect security queues
👉 Good to know: If summit tickets sell out, you can still book second-floor access which still has incredible views over Paris
➜ Lunch Near the Seine River
One of the best things about eating in Paris is that even simple meals feel special. You don't need expensive restaurants every day.
Some of the best lunches I've had here have been:
- Fresh pastries and a coffee by the river
- A baguette sandwich from a local boulangerie
- A cheese and fruit picnic on the grass
For a more sit-down option, look for cafés around Saint-Germain-des-Prés or the 7th arrondissement.
➜ Walk Along the Seine River
A Seine River walk is one of the most underrated free things to do in Paris. Some of the prettiest parts of the city cost absolutely nothing.
Don't miss:
- Pont Alexandre III
- Pont des Arts
- Place de la Concorde
- The little bouquiniste bookstalls along the banks
➜ Evening Seine River Cruise
If you're wondering whether a Seine River cruise in Paris is worth it - yes, absolutely.
Watching the city light up at golden hour from the water is one of the best Paris experiences at night, and seeing the Eiffel Tower sparkling from the river honestly feels like a movie scene.
Book a sunset slot if you can.
Day 2: Louvre Museum, Palais Royal & Montmarte
➜ Morning at the Louvre Museum
The Louvre is one of the most famous museums in the world - and even if you're not massively into art, it's still worth a visit. The building alone is stunning.
There's so much more to see here than just the Mona Lisa - the Egyptian Antiquities and Sculpture wings are both incredible.
Louvre Tips
- Pre-book timed entry tickets - non-negotiable
- Don't try to see everything; pick two or three sections and go properly
- Comfortable shoes are a must
- Arrive at opening to avoid the worst of the crowds
➜ Explore Palais Royal
Just a short walk from the Louvre, Palais Royal is one of the most Instagrammable spots in Paris - the black and white striped columns are everywhere on social media, but the gardens behind them are honestly even prettier.
It's quieter than most tourist areas and feels effortlessly elegant.
➜ Spend Time Around Opéra
A great area to wander for:
- French bakeries and famous Paris macarons (try Ladurée)
- Luxury boutiques and shopping
- Beautiful Haussmann architecture
- Classic Parisian cafés
Even if you're not spending money, this area just feels like Classic Paris.
➜ Sunset Montmarte & Sacré-Cœur
Montmartre is one of the most beautiful neighbourhoods in Paris - and it feels completely different to the rest of the city. More artistic, more relaxed, slightly chaotic in the best way.
The streets here are full of tiny cafés, hidden wine bars, flower-covered buildings and local artists. This is the kind of area where you should let yourself get a little lost.
Sacré-Cœur Basilica at sunset is one of those simple Paris moments that ends up being really memorable. The views over the city are some of the best you'll find - and it's free.
You'll usually find musicians on the steps and people watching the city turn golden. Worth every step of the climb.
Day 3: Le Marais, Notre-Dame & Saint-Germain
➜ Slow Morning in Le Marais
Le Marais is one of the coolest areas in Paris - and honestly my personal favourite. It manages to feel local and central at the same time, which is hard to pull off in a city this busy.
It's perfect if you love:
- Boutique shopping and vintage stores
- Trendy cafés and French bakeries
- Street photography and cute corners
- A slightly slower pace than the main tourist spots
Give yourself a proper morning here rather than rushing through it.
➜ Notre-Dame & ÎIle de la Cité
Even seeing Notre-Dame Cathedral from the outside is worth it - the whole area around Île de la Cité is beautiful and feels incredibly historic. Following the 2019 fire and its restoration, the cathedral has now reopened, making this a particularly special time to visit.
- Wander the little streets around the island
- Grab a coffee and take it slow
- This is one of the best areas in Paris for photography
➜ Afternoon: Saint-Germain-des-Prés
If you imagine the classic Paris café scene - tiny tables outside, people sitting for hours over coffee - that's Saint-Germain. This is traditional Parisian life at its most elegant.
- Historic cafés that have been there for decades
- Bookshops and luxury boutiques
- Quiet, beautiful streets
- Amazing pastry shops around every corner
One of the best things to do here is genuinely just slow down for a few hours.
➜ Evening: Dinner & Wine Bars
Paris does evenings incredibly well. Even something as simple as sitting outside with wine and bread somehow feels cinematic.
Good options for your evening:
- A traditional French bistro on a side street (avoid anything on the main tourist drag)
- Wine bars in Le Marais
- A late-evening walk along the Seine
Day 4: Arc de Triomphe, Champs-Élysées & Final Paris Moments
➜ Arc de Triomphe
The Arc de Triomphe is honestly underrated compared to the Eiffel Tower — and the rooftop views are incredible. From up here you can see:
- The full length of the Champs-Élysées
- The Eiffel Tower in the distance
- La Défense to the west
- The Paris skyline spreading out in every direction
👉 Good to know: Book tickets in advance and go in the morning before it gets busy.
➜ Walk the Champs-Élysées
Yes, it's touristy. Yes, it's worth it - at least once.
The Champs-Élysées is one of the most famous streets in the world and it's hard to leave Paris without walking it properly. It's especially pretty in the evening when everything is lit up.
- Plenty of shopping and café-hopping if that's your thing
- The side streets branching off are worth exploring
- Don't feel like you need to spend a lot of time here - one solid walk covers it
➜ Galeries Lafayette Rooftop
➜ Final Evening in Paris
For your last evening - don't over-plan it. Some of the best Paris memories come from the unplanned moments:
- Walking quiet streets with nowhere to be
- Stumbling into a great café by accident
- Watching the Eiffel Tower sparkle on the hour
- Buying pastries late at night
- Sitting by the Seine doing absolutely nothing
That's the version of Paris you'll remember most when you're home.
