We'd been planning our Mauritius holiday for over a year, and choosing where to stay was one of the biggest decisions. With so many luxury hotels in Mauritius and beach resorts in Mauritius to choose from, we spent a lot of time comparing different options before deciding. We considered a few other luxury resorts across Mauritius, but kept coming back to LUX Grand Gaube because of its smaller boutique feel, excellent restaurant choice and consistently glowing reviews.

After seeing countless recommendations for this 5-star hotel in Mauritius, we finally booked ten nights at the resort to experience it for ourselves. In this LUX Grand Gaube Mauritius review*, I'm sharing our honest experience - from the luxury accommodation, restaurants and facilities to the LUX Grand Gaube beach*, service and whether I think this is one of the best resorts in Mauritius.

LUX* Grand Gaube Mauritius Overview

Located in Grand Gaube Mauritius on the island's northern coast, LUX Grand Gaube* is a beautiful beachfront resort surrounded by tropical gardens, palm trees and views across the Indian Ocean.

Unlike some of the larger Mauritius luxury resorts, LUX* Grand Gaube has a more boutique feel. The resort feels spacious without being overwhelming, with different areas to explore, several pools, multiple restaurants and plenty of quiet corners to relax.

The design is one of the first things you notice. Natural materials, neutral tones and open spaces blend beautifully with the tropical surroundings, creating a modern but relaxed atmosphere.

One of my favourite things about the resort was that it never felt like it was trying too hard. It has all the facilities you'd expect from a luxury hotel in Mauritius, but the atmosphere remains calm, welcoming and understated.

Is LUX* Grand Gaube Worth the Money?

The short answer? Yes - but it depends what you're looking for.

There is no denying that LUX Grand Gaube* is an investment. Compared with more affordable Mauritius hotels, the price is significantly higher. However, when compared with other 5-star resorts in Mauritius, we felt the quality of the experience justified the cost.

After spending 10 nights here, the things that stood out most were:

• The genuinely warm and attentive service
• The incredible choice of restaurants
• The beautiful beachfront location
• The peaceful atmosphere throughout the resort
• The attention to detail in the little things

For us, the biggest difference was that it never felt like a huge commercial resort. It felt personal, relaxing and somewhere you could genuinely switch off.

I think LUX Grand Gaube* is best suited to couples looking for a romantic getaway in Mauritius, honeymooners, anniversary trips or anyone wanting a luxury island escape rather than a busy all-inclusive holiday.

LUX* Grand Gaube Rooms - Which Room Should You Book?

During our stay we actually split our time between two room categories - a Junior Suite and a Wellness Junior Suite - so we got a proper feel for the difference.

Junior Suite

The LUX Grand Gaube Junior Suite* was spacious, comfortable and beautifully designed. The room followed the same natural aesthetic as the rest of the resort, with wooden details, neutral colours and plenty of space to relax.

There was a large bathroom, comfortable sleeping area and a private outdoor space where we could enjoy the peaceful surroundings and see the most beautiful sunsets from our terrace! For most couples visiting Mauritius, I think the Junior Suite would be more than enough. It offers the luxury feel you would expect without needing to upgrade further.

Wellness Junior Suite

The Wellness Junior Suite was a completely different experience. Designed around relaxation and wellbeing, it had a more spa-like feel with added extras such as yoga mats, free use of mountain bikes, and 20% discount in the spa. This room felt like a real treat during our stay.

More on the cosier side, but still modern and spacious, we really loved this room - especially the beautifully designed bathroom and clawfoot tub. You also have an outdoor terrace, but this time it faces the adults only area with a view of the quiet more tranquil lagoon.

If you're visiting for a Mauritius honeymoon, anniversary or special occasion, this would be the room category I would consider upgrading to.

LUX* Grand Gaube Restaurants: Is the Food Good?

This was one of the highlights of our stay, genuinely. The LUX* Grand Gaube food review short version: it's excellent, and there's enough variety that you won't get bored over a few nights.

If you're considering all inclusive Mauritius holidays, the dining experience is one of the areas where LUX Grand Gaube really stands out. Here's a quick rundown of whats currently on site:

• INTI - A Peruvian restaurant serving pisco-based cocktails and dishes. It's the resort's more adventurous, flavour-forward dining option.
• The Palm Court - The resort's main restaurant, styled like a global street market with different food stations to explore. 
• Café LUX - A lobby café where the beans are sourced and roasted on-site. Good for a coffee fix any time of day, including after a long flight.
• Beach Rouge - An Ibiza-inspired beach club and restaurant right on the sand. It's the resort's more social, laid-back daytime hangout spot.
• The G&T 100 Club - A bar built entirely around gin and tonic, with a playful, creative approach to serving it. Great for a relaxed evening drink with a bit of theatre.
• Creole Smokehouse - A pop-up dining spot set under a century-old banyan tree, serving smoky, Creole-inspired dishes. The rustic outdoor setting adds to the experience.
• BB's - A casual burger shack tucked near the banyan tree, focused on gourmet burgers. A good low-key option if you want something simple and satisfying.
• Bodrum Blue - A Turkish restaurant on the water serving mezze, pide, grilled octopus and baklava. It draws inspiration from Istanbul and the Turkish coastal town of Bodrum.
• Bee Honest Bar -  A cocktail bar with a playful, mixology-driven menu. Ideal if you like experimenting with different flavour combinations in your drinks.

Our favourite restaurant at LUX Grand Gaube Mauritius was definitely Bodrum Blue. The setting alone makes it worth visiting, especially around sunset, but the food was just as impressive. The staff really did make you feel so special, and the food was true authentic Turkish cuisine that we couldn't get enough of.

What is the LUX* Grand Gaube Beach Like?

The LUX Grand Gaube beach* is one of the best features of the resort.

The resort sits on a beautiful stretch of white sand overlooking the turquoise lagoon, with calm, clear water that feels exactly like you imagine a Mauritius beach holiday should look.

Because the resort is located on the north coast of Mauritius, the water is generally calm and sheltered, making it perfect for swimming and relaxing.

Our favourite time to visit the beach was later in the afternoon when the crowds had reduced and the light became softer. The sunsets were beautiful, and it was one of those places where you could happily sit and do nothing.

Pools and Facilities and Activities at LUX* Grand Gaube

There are multiple pools across the resort, including an infinity pool that looks straight out over the lagoon.

One thing we appreciated was that there were different areas depending on what kind of holiday you wanted. Some areas felt more social, while others were much quieter. The adults-only areas were particularly nice for couples wanting a more tranquil setting.

Despite staying for 10 nights, we never struggled to find somewhere to sit, whether that was by the pool or on the beach. There are plenty of sun loungers spread throughout the resort.

Water Sports and Activities

If you enjoy being active on holiday, LUX Grand Gaube* has an excellent selection of complimentary and paid activities. Many of the non-motorised water sports are included in your stay, making it easy to get out on the lagoon without any additional cost.

The LUX Me Spa* is another standout feature of the resort. Guests can book a range of treatments, including massages, facials and body therapies, alongside wellness programmes and beauty treatments. There are also dedicated spaces for yoga and meditation, making it easy to switch off completely during your stay.

If you're staying in one of the Wellness Junior Suites, you'll also benefit from additional wellness-focused features designed to make your stay even more relaxing.

Entertainment

Unlike some all-inclusive resorts in Mauritius, LUX Grand Gaube* doesn't focus on loud entertainment or late-night parties. Instead, the evenings have a much more relaxed feel, with live music, DJs and occasional performances creating a lovely atmosphere without ever feeling overwhelming.

For us, this was exactly what we wanted. After spending the day exploring Mauritius or relaxing by the pool, it was nice to enjoy a cocktail overlooking the water before dinner, followed by low-key evening entertainment.

Is LUX* Grand Gaube Good for Couples?

Yes - this is where I think the resort really shines.

Although it is also suitable for families, the layout means couples can still enjoy a peaceful and romantic stay.

The combination of beautiful beaches, excellent restaurants, spa facilities and quiet spaces makes it one of the best honeymoon hotels in Mauritius.

I would especially recommend it for:

• Honeymoons
• Anniversary trips
• Luxury travellers wanting a relaxing escape

Things To Do Near LUX* Grand Gaube

While the resort is beautiful enough that you could easily spend your entire holiday there, I would recommend exploring more of the island too.

Being located in north Mauritius makes it a great base for visiting:

• Grand Baie
• Botanical gardens
• Beaches along the north coast
• Local markets
• Island excursions

For a longer trip, I would combine your stay with a wider Mauritius itinerary so you can experience more than just the resort.

Is there enough to do at LUX* Grand Gaube? Yes. The resort offers swimming pools, water sports, snorkelling, kayaking, paddleboarding, yoga, a spa and several restaurants. We stayed for 10 nights and never felt short of things to do.

Can you swim in the sea at LUX* Grand Gaube? Yes. The lagoon is calm and sheltered, making it ideal for swimming, paddleboarding and kayaking. 

How many nights should you stay at LUX* Grand Gaube? After spending 10 nights at the resort, I think 7 nights is the sweet spot if you're planning to combine it with exploring the island. 

Do you need to book restaurants in advance? For some restaurants, yes. We found it best to make dinner reservations as early as possible, particularly for Bodrum Blue, which was consistently popular during our stay.
